Posted by Ray.Ibanez On November - 28 - 2008

sandisk microsd card

That 8GB SanDisk MicroSD card not doing it for you? Well don’t worry because SanDisk has a 128GB MicroSD card on the way, that that’s right, 128GB! SanDisk has been marketing their MicroSD cards for the cell phone and MP3 market which accounted for about $1.4 billion in revenue for SanDisk in 2007 alone. Many cell phones have expansion slots for MicroSD cards and many more are expected to include this feature in the future. 128GB is about how most modern notebook computers come with, but SanDisk hopes to bring that storage capacity to cell phones.

SanDisk firmware update for Clip and Fuze

Posted by Geoffrey.Cruz On November - 28 - 2008

SanDisk recently released a new firmware update for the Sansa Clip and the Sansa Fuze MP3 players. The most exciting feature with the new firmware update is the new support for Ogg Vorbis and FLAC file types. Not many MP3 players out there can boast this same support. In addition, the new firmware updates allows the Clip and the Fuze to play the most advanced Audible AAX  Type 4 format and give the Sansa players enhanced controls over the playlists and podcasts. Each player has their own firmware update with the Clip getting version 1.01.29 and the Fuze getting version 1.01.15. The following are the step necessary for the firmware update:

Updating the SanDisk Sansa player’s firmware

  • Download and install the Sansa Firmware Updater.
  • Attach your player to the computer and open the app.
  • Check the Firmware box and click Download Now.
  • Unplug the player when prompted to finalize the upgrade. The entire process should take under 10 minutes. Be aware that at least 6MB of free space is required for the Clip’s firmware.- Geoff

    SanDisk/Alcatel-Lucent case dismissed

    Posted by Geoffrey.Cruz On November - 25 - 2008

For all who were kept in the dark, SanDisk was currently in a legal battle with Alcatel-Lucent, one of the world’s leaders in telecommunications. SanDisk was suing Alcatel-Lucent over one of their patents, and Alcatel-Lucent countered with claims asking SanDisk for royalties over their MP3 players. The case was put on hold because Alcatel-Lucent is currently fighting a similar case with Microsoft. Today, both Alcatel-Lucent and SanDisk filed a joint request to drop the lawsuit at the San Jose Federal Court. Milpitas-based SanDisk has stated that their media players, such as the Connect, Clip, View, Fuze, SlotMusic, etc. don’t use the process that is covered by the Alcatel-Lucent patent. Alcatel-Lucent agreed “not to sue or otherwise seek to hold SanDisk liable” for infringement of the patent.

Review of the Sansa SlotMusic Player

    Posted by Ray.Ibanez On November - 25 - 2008

    sansa slotmusic player review

The folks at the gadgeteer did a review of the new Sansa SlotMusic Player and they had some good and bad things to say about it. Sansa took a gamble by releasing yet another MP3 player in a market with so much competition and with the Apple iPod so far ahead of all of them. They did go on to say the fact that a computer is not needed for the Sansa SlotMusic Player is a unique feature as the player has no internal memory and is loaded with a MicroSD card that goe for about $14.99 a pop. Although it doesn’t have a display but at $19.99 that shouldn’t be a concern at this price point anyways. One major drawback is that there only 30 albums available in MicroSD form so far, but if you have music you want to put on a MicroSD card this little player may just do the trick for you.
