We all use memory cards these days, in our computers, camera, video game consoles and now in our cell phones and music players such as the SanDisk Sansa. Did you ever wonder how memory cards came to be? This interesting article about the history of memory cards from thecontentcorner.com gives us a short history of how memory cards that we use today came to be.
Memory cards were initiated around 1990 when technology in mobile phones and digital cameras began to grow and become more complicated. Now its not odd to have a mobile phone with a en suite camera of 5 mega pixels which allows you to take photos of huge resolution. As integral storage on phones is very little, on average around 10MB, the requirement for superfluous storage came about and so the memory card, the SDcard was one of the first.
Whilst the SDcard was the first to be initiated this was quickly followed by the MiniSD, MicroSD, the MS Micro2 and the Micro SDHC. One of the first producers to leap on the bandwagon with the requirement for memory was SanDisk, though many others have followed. Not only were they used in phones, cameras and camcorders they were also taken advantage of by individuals using video games controllers on the likes of the Xbox, GameCube and Play station.
